Raúl Grijalva

Solving big problems requires big solutions. As a representative from Southern Arizona, I will keep fighting for policies that help Arizona families thrive,  support a humane immigration system that works for everyone, and prioritize strong environmental protections to combat the climate crisis and safeguard our planet for future generations to come.
I am here to serve you!

TRUMP TAX CUTS TANKED CORPORATE R&D and INVESTMENT. A John Kenneth Galbraith quote on "supply-side economics," commonly referred to as "trickle-down economics," uses a metaphor to critique this economic theory. His analogy suggests that if you give enough benefits to the wealthy (feeding oats to the horse), eventually the less affluent (the birds) will receive some benefits from the excess (what the horse leaves behind). This is a critical view, implying that the process is inefficient and not necessarily effective in promoting overall economic welfare. Galbraith's statement reflects skepticism about the effectiveness of supply-side economics, which posits that reducing taxes and regulatory barriers for businesses and the wealthy will stimulate investment in the short term and benefit society at large in the long term. Critics like Galbraith argue that this approach often results in significant benefits for the wealthiest while providing minimal advantages to the lower and middle-income strata of society. Economic data from various periods of tax cuts in the U.S., such as the Reagan and Bush administrations, often support this view, showing that while the economy grows, income inequality tends to increase, and the expected "trickle-down" to the poorest sectors is less than projected. In fact higher corporate tax rates lead to more investment. Tax Avoidance through Investment: Higher corporate taxes incentivize companies to reinvest their profits into the business rather than paying them out. When tax rates are high, the cost of distributing profits to shareholders (in the form of dividends or buybacks) increases. Consequently, companies often choose to reinvest profits into productive activities like research and development, upgrading facilities, or expanding operations, as these investments can often be deducted from taxable income, reducing the overall tax burden. Long-term Planning: Higher taxes encourage businesses to focus on long-term gains rather than short-term profitability leading to more sustainable business practices and investments in innovation. IS THERE A DOCTOR IN THE HOUSE? TRUMP and Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson, must have gotten food poisoning from something they ate recently, which has resulted in diarrhea and vomit from both ends, called "political bull shit". AKA, "NON-CITIZENS" able to vote. Not to be confused with the "blood poisoning" of this country: apparently, this form of "food poisoning", (that thousands of migrants from Africa, Afghanistan, China, besides those from south of the border, are being secretly allowed into the U.S. to steal the upcoming election), is gaining impetus. And, is being pushed by MAGA , Republican legislators, some CEO's, billionaire financiers to influence Trump's base of supporters and voters. This latest insanity is yet another falsity, like his previous "Big lie".. FACT: "Non-citizens" are already NOT ALLOWED to vote in the United States Federal elections under the Illegal Immigration Reform and Responsibility Act of 1996. "No state" can allow Non-citizens to vote and in most local elections either. FURTHERMORE: if the "bi-partisan negotiated" Border-Migrant agreement, which "TRUMP CAMPAIGNED AGAINST", had been allowed to be voted upon, such a theory wouldn't even exist. QUESTION: HOW MUCH "POLITICAL BULL SHIT" ARE SOME PEOPLE WILLIING TO INGEST AND DIGEST? ISN'T IT TIME FOR EITHER AN EMOTIONAL CATHARSIS? OR, IN SOME CASES, A CARTHARTIC FOR A LONG OVERDUE BOWELS PURGING?

Today, my DC office was proud to host @pattiegonia and chat about the collective action needed to address climate change and mature and old growth forests. They did their best to pose as trees. ...
