Grijalva Emphasizes Health Care With Triggers, Opt-Out Or Reproductive Restrictions Will Not Pass House
Friday November 20, 2009Rep. Raśl M. Grijalva today announced his continuing support for health care reform with a strong public option available as soon as possible to all Americans, emphasizing that a final bill containing triggers, state opt-out language or excessive restrictions on reproductive rights will be defeated in the House. "The American people have made clear their support for an effective public option throughout this process, and now it's time to give them one," Grijalva said. "Further watering down an already weakened public insurance program, either out of misplaced political calculation or a misunderstanding of policy, would be a profound mistake."

Grijalva Announces Bill To Help Struggling Schools Prevent Dropouts, Encourage Pursuit of Higher Education
Friday November 20, 2009Rep. Raśl M. Grijalva today announced the release of H.R. 4122, the Graduation for All Act, which seeks to decrease dropout rates and provide assistance to struggling middle schools and high schools around the country. The bill, co-sponsored by Grijalva, House Education and Labor Committee Chairman George Miller and several other lawmakers, authorizes $2 billion in competitive grants for low-performing high schools and their feeder middle schools, increases financial aid awareness and career planning, and supports strategic partnerships between high schools, middle schools and local communities to turn around struggling institutions, among other features.

Friday November 20, 2009Washington, DC – Rep. Raśl M. Grijalva today announced his full support for a Congressional investigation of unusual drug company pricing behavior over the past several years. Grijalva, co-chair of the 83-member Congressional Progressive Caucus, said the Government Accountability Office (GAO) should look carefully at why pharmaceutical companies have raised prices on dozens of common prescription drugs far in excess of standard inflation.

Monday November 16, 2009Washington, DC – Rep. Raśl M. Grijalva today applauded the Department of Energy's newly announced award of more than $5 million in federal Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grants to the City of Tucson. The grant, one of thousands given to communities around the country, is funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.

Grijalva Announces Readiness to Fight Triggers, Opt-Out in Senate Health Bill
Thursday November 12, 2009Rep. Raśl M. Grijalva today announced his determination to fight against any upcoming health care legislation that further damages an already weakened public health insurance option. Grijalva said that as the Senate takes up a final reform bill, a public plan should be offered without conditions to Americans in every state similar to the version approved in the House on Saturday.

Grijalva Welcomes Public Comments Supporting Grand Canyon Mining Moratorium
Friday November 06, 2009Rep. Raśl M. Grijalva today hailed the nearly 100,000 public comments filed in support of an Interior Department proposal to withdraw nearly a million acres surrounding the Grand Canyon from consideration of new mining claims. He said the comments embrace the spirit of H.R. 644, his proposal to ban mining claims near the canyon, which draws millions of American and international visitors every year.

Grijalva Hails Legislation Recognizing Former Interior Secretary Stewart L. Udall
Tuesday November 03, 2009Legislation to improve the Udall Foundation and honor one of the great public servants of our time, Stewart L. Udall, was signed into law today. Introduced by Congressman Raśl M. Grijalva, H.R. 1035 passed the Senate Oct. 21 and was signed by President Obama this morning. The law renames the entity the Morris K. Udall and Stewart L. Udall Foundation, in recognition of the Interior Secretary's historic contributions, and opens the door for the foundation to open an office in Washington, D.C., among other provisions.

Grijalva Expresses Disappointment With House Bill, Vows Robust Amendment
Thursday October 29, 2009Congressman Grijalva today announced his deep disappointment that a robust public option was not included in the House version of health care reform legislation released earlier today. He said he would fight for a floor vote on including a robust plan in the bill, which will require approval by leadership and the Rules Committee.
