Annual Events

Each year, my office holds numerous events to highlight the diversity of our district, serve constituents, and engage with local schoolchildren. Here are the main events my office holds annually:

Valentines for Vets

Every year my office seeks to brighten the Valentine’s Day of our local veterans in Southern Arizona with our annual ‘Valentines for Veterans’ event. Each year, we collect hand-made valentines from students across Arizona’s Third Congressional District and deliver them to organizations serving local veterans. It’s become one of my favorite ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

Essay Contest

Each March, in honor of Women’s History Month, the Office of Congressman Grijalva invites middle school students to participate in our annual “Women Who Inspire Me” writing competition.

This competition is for students in grades 6-8 in Congressional District 3. Participating students submit an essay or poem recognizing a woman (or women) they admire most and why. It can be any woman who inspires participants, whether they are a historical figure, government official, or member of their family.

Congressional Art Competition

Each Spring, the Congressional Art Competition sponsored by the House of Representatives recognizes the artistic talent of students across the country. Every congressional district submits the artwork of a local student to hang in the U.S. Capitol for one year. Winners also receive a round-trip flight and hotel accommodation in Washington, DC to attend the art competition reception with other winners.
