Rep. Grijalva Announces 2019 Congressional Art Competition Winner

TUCSON— Today, Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva announced Marilyn Garcia Chavez of Kofa High School in Yuma, Arizona as the winner of the 2019 Congressional Art Competition for Arizona’s Third Congressional District. Her piece, entitled “Déjà vu,” will hang in the U.S. Capitol for one year. According to the artist, the piece is about childhood and wanting to convey the innocence of children and their ability to live freely, explore the world, and embrace curiosity.

“Every year, I am amazed at the diverse artistic talent we have across our district, and I want to thank all of the students who submitted phenomenal artwork to the competition,” said Rep. Grijalva. “This year was no different, and I’m proud Marilyn’s artwork will represent our district as it hangs in the halls of the U.S. Capitol. I congratulate Marilyn on her accomplishment, and look forward to welcoming her in Washington to view her art.”

As the winner of the Congressional Art Competition, Marilyn will receive a free trip to Washington, where she will be honored at a Congressional reception and view her artwork on display in the U.S. Capitol.
