Rep. Grijalva Announces $471.3 Million for Arizona Colleges, Universities, and Students

TUCSON— Today, Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva announced $471.3 million in emergency funding for colleges, universities, and students in Arizona. The funding comes from the recently passed American Rescue Plan and will help schools facing budget shortfalls as a result of the pandemic while allowing them to continue to safely serve their students. At least half of the funds will be distributed as emergency cash grants to students negatively impacted by the pandemic and facing food insecurity, homelessness, or other hardships.

“From food insecurity to homelessness to mental health issues, our students have faced numerous challenges throughout the pandemic,” said Rep. Grijalva. “These funds will provide immediate relief to many of these students and ensure that our colleges and universities are better equipped to support them in the immediate future and beyond. I applaud the Biden Administration’s focus on keeping our students on track and ensuring that higher education institutions have the resources they need to weather the end of the pandemic while helping our students in the process.”

Arizona institutions receiving funding under the American Rescue Plan are:

  • Arizona Western College: $16.5 million
  • Cochise College: $9.5 million
  • Eastern Arizona College: $8.3 million
  • Glendale Community College: $33.4 million
