Rep. Grijalva Blasts Trump Administration Over Failure to Reunite Asylum-Seeking Children with Their Parents After Trump’s Family Separation Policy

TUCSONLawyers from the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and other pro-bono law firms who were tasked with tracking down the parents of children separated from them at the border under the Trump Administration’s family separation policy revealed they were unable to find the parents of 545 separated children. In response, Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva issued the following statement:

“These latest revelations should shake everyone in this nation to the very core. 545 children are effectively orphaned with the explicit consent and active participation of the Trump Administration. They were ripped from their parents’ arms, off-handedly placed in shelters, and left to wonder when, if ever, they would see their parents again. Due to the cruelty of Donald Trump and the xenophobia of Stephen Miller, we know that some of them may never see their parents again.

“The Trump Administration must undertake ever effort to reunite the families they so willingly destroyed, and every official complicit in this tragedy must face consequences for their actions. Human rights abuses should never be the foundations of government policy.”
