Rep. Grijalva Comments on the Resignation of Attorney General Gonzales

Tucson, AZ – Earlier this year, Rep. Raul M. Grijalva (D-AZ) sent a letter to President Bush, calling for the resignation of Attorney General Alberto Gonzales over the firings of eight U.S. Attorneys.

Today, he released the following statement in response to Attorney General Gonzales’ resignation:

“The resignation of Attorney General Gonzales is long overdue. Attorney General Gonzales long ago lost the confidence of the people of this nation due to the rampant politicization of federal law enforcement that occurred under his tenure.

“Gonzales’ resignation is a necessary step in reversing the partisan politics that has plagued our justice system. We must return the office of the U.S. Attorney General to its original purpose – to represent the United States of America and its people in a fair and non-political manner.”
