Rep. Grijalva Congratulates Tucson on $1.3 Million Choice Neighborhood Planning Grant

WASHINGTON, DC—This week, the Department of Housing and Urban Development announced the City of Tucson as the recipient of a $1.3 million Choice Neighborhood Planning Grant. The grant leverages public and private funds to empower local communities to address important housing issues in distressed neighborhoods while transforming communities in the process.

“Grants like these revitalize communities, and I’m thrilled that the City of Tucson has the opportunity to invest more money and resources to address affordable housing in the area,” said Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva. “I’m grateful to the City of Tucson, Pima County, the Pascua Yaqui Tribe, and all of the other local partners who helped make this grant a reality. Tucson is stronger thanks to your efforts.”

The grant will help fund the Oracle Choice Neighborhoods Initiative which will reinvigorate the area that serves as the northern gateway to Downtown Tucson. The plan will stimulate job growth, combat crime, and completely redevelop severely distressed public housing.

“This is good news and good work by City of Tucson staff,” said Tucson Mayor Jonathan Rothschild. “This will give us funds to kick-start our efforts to improve the Oracle-Stone corridor for the residents and businesses in the area.”

Rep. Grijalva sent letters to the Department of Housing and Urban Development in support of the grant.
