Rep. Grijalva Statement on Extended Voter Registration Deadline in Arizona

TUCSONLate Monday evening, a U.S. District Court Judge ruled that the restrictions imposed on the public in order to stop the spread of COVID-19 imposed a hardship on some groups when attempting to register to vote. The judge ordered the State of Arizona to extend the voter registration deadline to October 23. In response Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva issued the following statement:

“We should undertake every effort to ensure as many eligible voters as possible can register to vote and exercise their constitutional right. The COVID-19 pandemic and the accompanying restrictions made it increasingly difficult for some communities, particularly communities of color, rural communities, and Native communities, to take this critical first step to participate in next month’s elections. The court made the right decision to extend the voter registration deadline, and I urge all Arizonans to make sure they are registered to vote and have their voice heard in the upcoming elections.”
