Rep. Grijalva Urges the EPA to Ban TCE on Day of Acting EPA Administrator's First Congressional Hearing
Wednesday August 01, 2018TUCSON, AZ—Today, Acting Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Andrew Wheeler testified before the Senate Environmental and Public Works Committee. Before the hearing, Tucson resident Linda Robles appeared in a press conference to denounce the EPA’s refusal to ban trichloroethylene (TCE)—despite it being a known carcinogen. In response, Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva issued the following statement:
“I’m tired of Trump’s cabinet of corruption insisting on putting the profits of chemical corporations ahead of the health and well-being of the American people. Despite the Trump administration’s efforts to ignore it, we’ve seen the sickness and death left behind by TCE poisoning in our families and communities. No community deserves this, and I demand that the EPA continue testing for TCE in Tucson, expand the current testing area, hold polluters responsible, and ban this toxic chemical once and for all.”
