Rep. Grijalva Votes for Strong Coronavirus Response, Urges Constituents to Follow CDC Guidelines

WASHINGTON— Today, the House of Representatives passed the Families First Coronavirus Response Act. The provisions of the bill include an Emergency Paid Leave Program, free testing for coronavirus, enhanced unemployment measures, food assistance programs, and expanded Medicaid assistance.

“Keeping health care workers safe and keeping working families financially secure are some of the best ways that we can keep our communities safe from the coronavirus,” said Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva. “This legislation signals to employers that they should urge their employees to stay home when sick – one of the most important things we can do to slow transmission. Making testing widely availability is vital to understanding the depth and course of the outbreak. The economic relief and safeguards for families, seniors, and children will help keep them healthy and allow appropriate social distancing.”

Rep. Grijalva recently created a page on his website updating constituents on the CDC guidelines to mitigate the spread of novel coronavirus. These measures include social distancing and practicing good hygiene like frequent handwashing.

“Social distancing, proper hygiene, and staying home when sick are the best ways to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus and keep your friends, family, and loved ones safe. It is essential to slow the transmission to make sure those who need care can get it right away.” continued Grijalva. “I will continue to monitor the situation and work off CDC guidance to keep the people of Southern Arizona informed.”
