Grijalva Hosting Ad Hoc Hearing, Press Conference Friday in Nogales on Humanitarian, Economic Aspects of Immigration Reform

Washington, D.C. – Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva and several members of the Congressional Border Caucus, which he co-chairs, will hold an ad hoc hearing this Friday in Nogales, Ariz., to discuss the economic and humanitarian aspects of comprehensive immigration reform. The event starts at 1:00 p.m. Arizona time and will be followed by a tour of the Port of Entry and press conference.

Rep. Grijalva and his colleagues will highlight the human voices of border communities that will be affected by any comprehensive immigration reform legislation. The event will focus on the need for legislation that respects human rights, ends the humanitarian crisis of migrant deaths, and expands our understanding of “national security” to include economic prosperity. Grijalva has introduced bills in this and previous Congresses to modernize border ports of entry and bolster trade with Mexico, which supports 6 million American jobs.

The ad hoc hearing will consist of a panel of national and local experts who will provide testimony and answer questions. The event is free and open to the media. Written materials will be available for reporters at the ad hoc hearing.
