Recipients: Consortia composed of a minimum of three entities that may include a combination of any of the following: public/private non-profits, for-profit organizations, faith-based organizations, and universities and colleges.
Granting Agency: Department of Labor, Office of Disability Employment Policy
Amount: $1,100,000 maximum award
Purpose: Provide technical assistance, training and information to organizations operating youth programs funded by the Workforce Investment Act, as well as current and former Labor Department grantees, to aid them in integrating evidence-based, effective practices for improving transition results for young people with disabilities who are enrolled in their programs.
Facts: Applicants must recognize that youth, families, educators, workforce professionals and other stakeholders need to work together to increase employment expectations for youth with disabilities. The full announcement for this grant is available at www.dol.gov/odep/topics/grants.htm.

Granting Organization: Department of Housing and Urban Development
Amount: $603,568 (Avondale City Community Development Block Grant); $2,248,656 (Maricopa County CDBG), $178,300 (Maricopa County Emergency Shelter Grant), $3,014,848 (Maricopa County HOME Grant)
Purpose: Community Development Block Grants from HUD are awarded to improve living environments and expand economic opportunity, primarily for lower income individuals and families. Emergency Shelter Grants are provided to state and local governments to improve and increase emergency homeless shelters. HOME Grants help provide affordable housing to low-income families.

Recipients: Sunnyside Unified School District, Santa Cruz Regional School District, Pima Prevention Partnership
Granting Organization: Department of Education
Amount: $225,527 (Pima Prevention Partnership), $740,073 (Santa Cruz), $631,464 (Sunnyside)
Purpose: These grants are among 56 awards totaling $27 million to school districts and community organizations that plan to implement comprehensive physical fitness and nutrition programs for their students through the Carol M. White Physical Education Program (PEP), a Department of Education initiative that started in 2001. Awarded programs must offer instruction in healthy eating habits, good nutrition and physical exercise.
