Grijalva Applauds Departments of Transportation and Veterans Affairs on Creation of New Job Search Online Portal for Veterans

Tucson, Ariz. – Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva today applauded the departments of Transportation and Veterans Affairs for their joint creation of a new online job search portal for veterans looking for jobs in the transportation sector. Veterans can visit http://www.dot.gov/veteranstransportationcareers/ and http://www.va.gov to search for available positions and information about job expos in their area.

“Our military teaches the same brand of hard work, attention to detail, technical skills, and other qualifications you need to be a good engineer, pilot, mechanic or driver,” Grijalva said. “Southern Arizona’s military community is going to see a lot of career opportunities open up that these tools can help them take advantage of. I thank both departments for working so hard to connect veterans with available jobs in a growing sector, and I encourage everyone to take a look at these helpful resources.”

The Web sites link to the Veterans Transportation Career Center, where former armed services members can enter their specific military work experience and see close matches in the civilian job market. The sitefocuses on guiding veterans to jobs as aviation pilots, aviation maintenance technicians, air traffic controllers, commercial motor vehicle drivers and emergency medical servicesprofessionals. Job seekers can find what training and certification is needed for civilian jobs, determine what career fits best with their background, and search for available jobs in their field.
