Rep. Grijalva Applauds Rosemont Mine Ruling

TUCSON— Today, a federal judge overturned the U.S. Forest Service’s decision to approve the Rosemont Mine, halting its planned construction. In response, Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva issued the following statement:

“Since 1872, the mining industry has been given almost everything it’s ever wanted with no questions asked, and this ruling is the ultimate emperor-has-no-clothes moment. Congress, federal agencies, and most of all the American public no longer have to live with the industry-backed fiction that the law gives them a blank check to mine and dump wherever they please. This ruling addresses long-standing issues that Republicans have been only too willing to ignore. Our country is ready for the kind of serious, pro-environment mining reform I’ve introduced, and I look forward to moving it through this Congress.”
