Rep. Grijalva Votes for Pay Equity, House Passes Paycheck Fairness Act

WASHINGTON— Today, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 7, the Paycheck Fairness Act, which would strengthen the Equal Pay Act, close legislative loopholes, and provide women with tangible options to remedy pay disparities in the workplace. After voting in support of the legislation, Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva issued the following statement:

“When women are paid the wages they deserve, our families and communities are stronger. It is downright appalling that in the year 2019 women still make 80 cents to every dollar earned by their male counterparts—and that figure is even worse for women of color. It is long past time to finally bring businesses into the twenty-first century and provide women across the country with the mechanisms they need to hold their employers accountable.

“This legislation will help remedy generations of pay discrimination that have kept women from breaking the proverbial glass ceiling. I am proud to stand with my Democratic colleagues to affirm to women across the country that their work matters and they deserve equitable compensation.”
