WASHINGTON, D.C.— The National Science Foundation (NSF) awarded the University of Arizona a $1.2 million research grant to research teacher efficacy and persistence. The award is part of NSF’s Noyce Program, which trains teachers in specific techniques to better serve diverse populations in high-need areas. In response, Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva issued the following statement:

“I’m thrilled the University of Arizona received this important grant to help better prepare educators for serving diverse students. Funding for educational research is critical to ensuring that teachers are equipped with the most effective teaching methods that will improve student achievement. Thanks to the National Science Foundation, the University of Arizona will continue to be a leader in educational research that will better prepare our teachers and help all of our students excel.”

Rep. Grijalva remains committed to ensuring funding for NSF. Recently, he signed on to a letter requesting increased funding for NSF in the FY2019 budget.
