Grijalva Congratulates Chief of Staff On Leadership Award

WASHINGTON, D.C. – On September 12, 2017, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) and CHCI Alumni Association (CHCI-AA), in partnership with the Congressional Hispanic Staff Association (CHSA), hosted a special reception honoring Congressional Chiefs of Staff who have demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity on Capitol Hill. One of three honorees, Amy Emerick Clerkin, Chief of Staff to Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva, was recognized for playing a pivotal role in ensuring that young Latinos are hired, offered opportunities to grow, and advance professionally during their tenures.

“Amy truly is an outstanding chief of staff. She’s honest, promotes trust, encourages individuality, and isn’t afraid of people taking risks. She’s committed to the personal and professional growth of our staff because she cares about their trajectory beyond our office – she’s building future leaders,” Rep. Grijalva said. “I am very fortunate that during her time as Chief, she has helped guide our office in a disciplined way that works for the various personalities and idiosyncrasies of our staff, and the needs of our constituents.”

Amy Emerick Clerkin began working for Rep. Grijalva in 2003 and has served as Rep. Grijalva’s Chief of Staff since 2009. She holds an M.B.A. from the Yale School of Management (New Haven, CT) and a B.A. from Lafayette College (Easton, PA).
