After Unreported Child Death in U.S. Custody, Rep. Grijalva Blasts Trump’s Disastrous Immigration Policies

WASHINGTON— Yesterday, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services confirmed the death of a 10-year-old migrant girl from El Salvador who died in its custody in September 2018. The girl’s death was previously unreported. In response, Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva issued the following statement:

“This latest unreported death of a 10-year-old child is a travesty, and the fault rests squarely with the evil immigration policies of the Trump Administration. As Trump plays politics with asylum-seeking children and their parents, the results are increasingly deadly—with six children dying in U.S. custody since September 2018.

“The time has long passed for investigations and calls for full transparency and accountability that ring hollow in the ears of Trump’s complicit advisers and foot-soldiers who perpetuate nothing but cruelty. Trump must reverse this deadly child separation policy immediately, or we will need not wait much longer for another tragic death in U.S. custody.”
