Washington, D.C. — Congressman Raúl M. Grijalva, Chairman of the Subcommittee on National Parks, Forests and Public Lands will hold a press conference on Tuesday, May 19, at 3 p.m. on the Cannon Terrace to discuss his opposition to including the Coburn amendment in H.R. 627, the Credit Cardholders Bill of Rights.
The controversial Coburn amendment was attached to an unrelated bill that is now being fast-tracked through the legislative process. Under the terms of the amendment, a restriction on guns in national parks that has been in place since the Reagan presidency would be overturned, and unrelated legislation designed to protect consumers from abuse by the credit card industry would also allow individuals to openly carry rifles, shotguns, and semi-automatic weapons in our national parks.
Congressman Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY) will also be in attendance.
