FHA Provides Long Needed Disaster Relief for Arizona Community Infrastructure

Grijalva fought for relief as communities were experiencing natural disasters

TUCSON, Ariz. – Today, Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva (AZ-07) announced the Federal Highway Administration (FHA) awarded $1,278,100 for the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) to restore roadways damaged by the Contreras Fire and $785,600 to ADOT to repair federal highways impacted by severe flooding and monsoons from August 2021.

Rep. Grijalva coordinated closely with localities and federal entities during these disasters and worked to gain access to funding to address the needs of communities and infrastructure impacted by these natural disasters. Read his advocacy here and here.

“This federal funding is an important allocation of resources to areas still recovering from these extreme natural disasters,” said Rep. Grijalva. “As climate change continues to exacerbate natural disasters, it’s critical that we prioritize projects that will ensure Arizonans are prepared for future climate-related events. I will continue to advocate for additional funding to ensure the impacted landscapes can be restored, communities rebuilt, and are prepared for any potential future natural disasters.”

In total, Arizona was awarded more than $36 million from FHA for natural disaster relief. More information can be found here.
