Washington, D.C. – Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva today announced his intention to award Kelsey Waite, a Tucson high school student, this year’s “Congressional Commitment to Community” award at a June 4 ceremony at his Tucson district office. Kelsey attends both Sonoran Science Academy and Tucson Magnet High School, works a weekend morning shift to pay for her own transportation, and has won numerous awards for her science projects and research over the course of her academic career.
“Kelsey’s achievements are remarkable, and any recognition the community can give her is richly deserved,” Grijalva said. “She reminds us that hard work, curiosity and determination are valuable assets, not clichés. She is a wonderful example for her peers, and I expect to hear great things from her in the years ahead.”
Kelsey has twice been invited to compete at the prestigious International Sustainable World (Energy, Engineering & Environment) Project Olympiad. She has received honors at both the statewide Arizona Science and Engineering Fair and the Southern Arizona Regional Science and Engineering fair.
The ceremony will take place at 9 a.m. Tucson time at Grijalva’s office at 810 E. 22nd St., Suite 102. For more information, call the district office at (520) 622-6788.
