TUCSON – Congressman Raúl M. Grijalva (D-AZ) announced the winner of the 2017 Congressional Art Competition for Arizona’s 3rd Congressional District at an art reception with participants, families, and art teachers on May 11th. Yulissa Aldana from Kofa High School in Yuma was selected as the winner. Her “American Puzzle” piece was created using acrylic, color pencil, and water colors. Yulissa has earned a free trip to Washington, D.C. to see her art piece hung in the U.S. Capitol building, where it will remain on display for one year.
“I want to congratulate and thank all of the competitors who submitted their artwork for the 2017 Congressional Art Competition,” Rep. Grijalva said. “In good times and in bad, art always has a way of bringing out emotions and ideas in an uncensored and innovative manner. I appreciate all the students who shared their artwork with our community and helped showcase the array of talent in Congressional District Three.”
