Grijalva Commends Southern Arizona For Standing Up Against Trump’s Wall

WASHINGTON D.C. – Congressman Raúl M. Grijalva (D-AZ) released this statement after the City of Tucson and the Pima County Board of Supervisors voted and passed two resolutions in opposition to continual militarization of the Southern Border and denouncing President Trump’s Executive Order 13767. Both resolutions, which declared their disapproval of the construction of a wall along the U.S-Mexico border represent additional voices of opposition to Trump’s anti-immigrant agenda.

“I would like to commend the City of Tucson and the Pima County Board of Supervisors for their leadership and commitment to our Southern Arizona communities and upholding the values of inclusiveness and tolerance” Rep. Grijalva said. “Since announcing his candidacy, Trump has stowed fear and division in our country. Communities like those in Southern Arizona that directly border Mexico are the ones who truly understand how the construction of a concrete barrier would only create more challenges than it would fix. Our borderlands is home to great diversity in its people, ecosystem and economy. It is that diversity that makes our country great. Trump and his wall serves only to divide our communities. I am proud that Tucson and Pima County understand how important it is, now more than ever, to stand united.”
