Washington, D.C. – Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva today congratulated the eight Tucson-area recipients of this year’s prestigious National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) grants. Awards include support for youth arts programs, a music education residency, a visiting artist lecture series at the University of Arizona, and several other cultural programs around the city.
“These grants are an important signal of our country’s unending commitment to artistic and cultural development,” Grijalva said. “It cannot be said often enough that the arts are not a luxury. Without art, music and literature, we’d be a poor nation indeed, and I’m proud to support the NEA and its efforts to support the artists of today and tomorrow.”
This round of awards extends more than $93 million to over 1,200 organizations across the nation, including over $56 million in partnership grants to state and regional arts organizations and $37 million in direct grants. According to NEA information, its grants generate on average seven dollars from non-federal sources for each dollar awarded.
