TUCSON – Congressman Raúl M. Grijalva (D-AZ) released the following statement on the fifth anniversary of the implementation of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. The program is currently under threat by more than ten Republican Attorneys Generals who have issued an ultimatum to the Trump Administration should he not terminate the program by September 5th.
“Today marks five years of the DACA program which has granted more than 800,000 young adults in this country the opportunity to study, work, and travel without the fear of being deported,” said Rep. Grijalva. “Yet, all the progress and contributions DREAMers have made come under threat by a small, fringed-right that is threatening to file lawsuits unless Trump’s administration effectively kills the program. The overwhelming majority of American people stand in strong support of DREAMers. DREAMers, like the more than 27,000 that call Arizona home, have a proven track record as outstanding members of our communities. All that is missing is political will from my colleagues to enact legislation to ensure that DACA remain a strong and reliable protection for immigrant youth.”
