Washington, D.C. – Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva and several House colleagues are leading a press conference Dec. 5 on Capitol Hill to call on President Obama to pause the deportations of undocumented immigrants and create an application process for eligible migrants and residents hoping to stay in the country. The event will feature the release of a letter the Members are sending Obama in support of the 543 faith-based, labor, legal, civil rights and neighborhood organizations – including the AFL-CIO, MALDEF, United We Dream, and the National Day Labor Organizing Network – promoting the change.
The event will feature a discussion of various presidential authorities the Members and activists believe President Obama could exercise. The White House recently announced a halt to the deportations of family members of U.S. military servicemembers.
The press conference will feature Reps. Grijalva, Lloyd Doggett, Charlie Rangel, Luis Gutierrez, Rush Holt and Dina Titus. Copies of the letter will be available at the event.
