TUCSON – Congressman Raúl M. Grijalva (D-Tucson) introduced a resolution last week recognizing the importance of National Middle Education Month, which runs throughout the month of March. Grijalva, a longtime member of the House Education and Workforce Committee and prominent advocate for expanded education opportunities for all children released the following statement:

“The academic achievement a student attains by the end of middle school has more impact on his or her college and career readiness than anything that happens during high school,”Rep. Grijalva said. “Yet the middle education years are largely overlooked in our national discussions of education reform. We must recognize these formative years for the pivotal time period that they are. We have a responsibility to ensure that the experiences of middle school students are at the forefront of educational debates.”
