Tucson, Ariz.– Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva will present constituent Samuel Pacheco with the bronze star he earned for service in Korea at a ceremony in his Tucson office on Wed., Sept. 8.
Pacheco was serving as a medic when he was wounded in action during the Korean War. He was told he would receive a medal for his actions but never received final confirmation of the award.
Thanks to Grijalva staff inquiries to the National Personnel Records Center, Pacheco’s award was recently finalized. His files had been kept in an area of the Center that suffered severe fire damage on July 12, 1973.
“Like many other veterans, Mr. Pacheco waited for years to get the recognition he truly deserved for his service to our country,” Grijalva said in announcing the event. “I’m proud to thank him for his extraordinary courage and look forward to presenting him with the award he earned so long ago.”
