Grijalva Reacts to Trump’s Ban on Transgender Service Members

Washington, D.C. – Rep. Grijalva released the following statement after President Trump announced a ban on transgender people from serving in the U.S. military “in any capacity.” Reports indicate that President Trump did not consult with the Department of Defense prior to announcing this drastic change in military policy.

“With this ban, President Trump has callously turned his back on more than 15,000 current active transgender service members, the LGBT community, and our nation. Military service members who bravely serve in the name of freedom, liberty, and rights for ALL deserve a better Commander-in-Chief. To claim that more than 15,000 active – and over 134,000 veteran – transgender service members are a ‘burden’ and a ‘disruption,’ is disgusting and unpatriotic.

“As a LGBTQ ally, I extend my gratitude to those who make sacrifices for our country and continue to pledge my unwavering support to them.”
