Grijalva Reacts to Trump’s Immigration Principles

TUCSON, AZ – Rep. Grijalva released the following statement after the Trump Administration published on Sunday night, a seven-page document of immigration principles and policies framework.

“To stall the progress that Democrats and Republicans have been fostering in giving permanent relief to more than 800,000 DREAMers is sabotage,” said Rep. Grijalva. “Trump’s extremist immigration principles hold little weight outside of a very small group of people like Stephen Miller and Jeff Sessions who see immigration and immigrants as a political agenda to promote hate, fear and division in our nation. As we’ve seen in many other circumstances, Trump is not in the business of governing nor does he care to offer solutions. These hard-lined extremist principles show his complete ineptitude to administer and sadly his willingness to allow our country to be divided at the expense of our nation’s future, immigrants, and for purely political purposes.

“As Trump continues to cater to a very small element of his dwindling base, Congress should stand ready to pass a clean DREAM Act. We won’t allow this latest distraction to take away from the work we have ahead in protecting DREAMers.”
