Grijalva: Republican Strategy on Healthcare Continues to Devolve

WASHINGTON D.C. – Congressman Raúl M. Grijalva (D-AZ) released the following statement in response to multiple failed attempts by Republicans to repeal ObamaCare, taking away health insurance from 22 million Americans and driving up costs for seniors, low-income individuals and those with pre-existing conditions.

“For seven years, Republicans have squandered on their promises to repeal and replace ObamaCare,” Rep. Grijalva said. “Their strategy has continuously devolved from calls to repeal and replace to now just simply waiting until after the mid-term elections because they believe it is more politically-expedient. The message from the American people is clear; we should not take away insurance from 22 million people in order to provide tax cuts to the upper echelon and Big pharma. For Trump and others in his Party, including Ryan and McConnell, to intentionally undermine the marketplaces and then call on the system to collapse, just to claim a political victory, is heartless. Now is the time for Republicans to include Democrats in the process so real improvements can be made to ObamaCare. The bottom line for Democrats is no cuts to Medicaid, opening Medicare to more people and continuing the revenue stream of ObamaCare. The people we represent expect nothing less.”
