Rep. Grijalva will discuss the importance of federal policy for cross-border and Southern Arizona commerce. Grower Alliance employees will process an estimated $18 million worth of produce – more than 2.8 million produce packages – during the 2011-2012 season. The Alliance recently received $2,634,600 in Small Business Administration-supported loans. On June 14, Rep. Grijalva sent a letter to House Speaker John Boehner and Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi urging Congress more adequately to equip ports of entry. Border wait times at five of the nation’s busiest southern ports average more than an hour, which results in an average of loss of $116 million per minute of delay. In 2008 this cost U.S. 26,000 jobs and $6 billion in output.
