Tucson, Ariz. — Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva will tour University Medical Center (UMC) at the University of Arizona campus on Tuesday to thank those who helped the victims of the Jan. 8 shooting that hospitalized Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and killed six other people. Grijalva will also speak at a press conference and discuss the Center’s outlook for the coming year with UMC officials.
Grijalva will arrive at 9:00 and tour the facility. He will speak at a press conference at 10:00 in the Kiewt Auditorium, after which he will meet privately with UMC CEO Kevin Burns and other hospital officials.
“I look forward to thanking the doctors, nurses and others who helped our community through a terrible time, and I want to extend my offer to help them any way I can,” Grijalva said. “UMC is a central part of Southern Arizona’s medical and economic future, and I’m proud to represent it in Congress. This visit will give me an opportunity to see first hand what the Center needs and how I and my staff can be of assistance, and I very much look forward to it.”
