WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Raúl M. Grijalva (D-AZ) today congratulated the Nogales High School marching band – The Pride of Nogales – who will be in Washington this weekend to represent the state of Arizona and perform in the annual Memorial Day Parade which passes the White House as it proceeds along historic Constitution Avenue. Rep. Grijalva happily provided a nomination for the band, and the Nogales community at large helped band members fundraise vigorously to ensure the students would be able to attend.
“I want to extend a heartfelt welcome to the 97 students, coaches and chaperones from Nogales High School marching band who are in Washington, D.C. this weekend to perform in the Memorial Day Parade,” Rep. Grijalva said. “It is a testament of their commitment as band members, and of Band Director Lisa Sargent-Meyers’ dedication, that they are here performing in our nation’s capital. I’m glad that Principal Cesar Miranda and President of the School Board Dr. Marcelino Varona Jr. will be here to help celebrate this tremendous achievement. The entire community came together to help fund this trip to Washington, and I know the band is thrilled to have their tremendous support. Congratulations again for this great achievement and for making Nogales so proud.”
