Washington, D.C. – Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva is serving as honorary host at a Capitol Hill briefing this Wednesday on his forthcoming Supplementary Security Income Restoration Act, which restores the Supplementary Security Income (SSI) program to its original intent. Approximately 8 million Americans currently receive SSI benefits, many of whom live with disabilities.
The event will explain how SSI has been eroded over the years, highlight the people the program has always been meant to help, and explain how Rep. Grijalva’s bill will make millions of Americans more economically secure. The event is being organized in coordination with the National Senior Citizens Law Center and will feature speakers from the Center for American Progress, the National Hispanic Council on Aging and other groups.
