Rep. Grijalva Condemns Trump’s Discriminatory Trans Military Ban, Supports House Resolution

WASHINGTON— Today, the House of Representatives passed H. Res. 124, a resolution that rejected President Trump’s discriminatory ban on transgender individuals serving in the U.S. military. After voting in favor of the resolution, Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva issued the following statement:

“The deeply-rooted discrimination and hatred of the Trump Administration should never form the basis of policy, and anyone willing and able to serve in the military should be allowed to—including our brave transgender brothers and sisters. This ban is nothing more than a cruel and shameful attack on the transgender community. Transgender individuals already serve in our military, and dozens of military leaders have spoken out against false claims that their service impacts military readiness. Today’s resolution rejects Trump’s discrimination and the bogus arguments this ban was based on, and reaffirms to the transgender community that their lives, rights, and futures matter.”
