WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Representative Raúl M. Grijalva (AZ-07) announced Grecia Solorio, a senior at Nogales High School, as the winner of the 2023 Congressional Art Competition for Arizona’s 7th Congressional District.
Her art, entitled “Chokehold,” will hang in the U.S. Capitol for one year. According to the artist, the piece was inspired to reflect the damaging effects of purity culture on women.
“I’d like to thank everyone who submitted their art for the competition this year and want to congratulate Grecia on this impressive accomplishment,” said Rep. Grijalva. “The depth of talent and range of artistic styles are inspiring and each participant should be proud of their work. I look forward to welcoming Grecia to Washington and viewing her art in the U.S. Capitol.”
As the winner of the Congressional Art Competition, Grecia will receive a trip to Washington, where she will be honored at a Congressional reception and view her artwork on display in the U.S. Capitol.
