WASHINGTON – Today, the Biden administration finalized a rule to protect Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) for more than 600,000 Dreamers as a federal regulation. Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva applauded the administration’s action and urged for the Senate to act:
“The finalized rule by the Biden administration is a collective sigh of relief for a beleaguered immigrant community that has faced legal limbo for too long. It’s the fulfillment of a promise by President Biden that will provide hundreds of thousands of young people that have known no other home but this one with a stronger sense of certainty and belonging.”
“But our work to protect these individuals is not finished.” “Republicans continue to push for xenophobic, America First policies, whitewash history and demonize immigrants, while Democrats want to build an immigration system that is fair, humane, and reflective of our immigrant values. It’s time for the Senate to enshrine these protections into law and take legislative action to provide a pathway to citizenship. The House has already passed the Dream and Promise Act. It’s time for U.S. Senate to do its job.”
