WASHINGTON— After the U.S. Senate confirmed Dr. Miguel Cardona as the next Secretary of Education, Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva issued the following statement:

“It’s refreshing that after four years of disastrous policies under Betsy DeVos, we finally have the expertise of someone who understands our public schools and cares about improving them and empowering our educators and support staff. Dr. Cardona has the experience to navigate the challenges of safely reopening our schools for in-person learning and helping our teachers and students make up for lost time. I’m confident that he will undertake every effort to address existing inequities in our education system and tirelessly fight to ensure that every child—no matter their zip code, origin, immigration status, or race—has access to the quality education they deserve. I congratulate Dr. Cardona on his confirmation and look forward to working with him on securing a better future for our kids.”
