Rep. Grijalva Calls on Hydroxychloroquine Stockpile Donation to Patients Harmed by Shortages
TUCSON— The Strategic National Stockpile has over 63 million doses of hydroxychloroquine while those with serious conditions like Lupus are unable to receive adequate dosages. The stockpile resulted from President Trump’s insistence that the drug could be used to treat COVID-19, an assertion numerous scientific studies debunked. In response to the Food and Drug Administration revoking permission to use the drug as a COVID-19 treatment, Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva called on the FDA to donate the remaining dosages to those in need:
“President Trump’s lies and falsehoods have not just endangered those exposed to COVID-19, but those with serious autoimmune diseases that require access to a steady supply of hydroxychloroquine. Despite numerous studies proving the President’s claims false, Trump continued to double-down and stockpile a drug that is useless for treating COVID-19 while also claiming to take it himself. Meanwhile, thousands of Americans whose lives depended on the drug were forced to ration dosages to save their own lives.
“Trump creates a crisis everywhere he goes and consistently puts his own desire to be right above the health needs of everyday Americans. The administration should help remedy this disaster by donating the stockpiled hydroxychloroquine to those who need it the most—regardless of the President’s fragile ego.”
