Rep. Grijalva Condemns DHS Plan to Implement Restrictions on the DACA Program
WASHINGTON— Today, the Trump Administration announced that it will enact new limits on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. Under the new guidance, the Department of Homeland Security will not accept any new DACA applications and will only renew deferred action requests for one year. This comes after the U.S. Supreme Court in June ruled that the Trump Administration violated the law when they ended the program. In response, Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva issued the following statement:
“Once again, the Trump Administration is flouting the law and defying the courts to continue enacting their xenophobic agenda—regardless of how many hard-working young people and their families are caught in the crosshairs. That’s the thing with the Trump Administration. It doesn’t matter how many DACA recipients are working in essential jobs right now, the amount of taxes they pay, or the fact that many of them only know the United States as their only home. It’s all about Trump and Stephen Miller implementing their anti-immigrant wish list—no matter the cost. Dreamers cannot afford to be at the mercy of these bigots and the whims of an unstable president. It’s time for the Senate to vote of the Dream and Promise Act that the House passed last year and give Dreamers the permanent pathway to citizenship they deserve.”
