Rep. Grijalva Condemns Postmaster General Louis DeJoy’s Ten-Year Reorganization Plan

TUCSON— Today, Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva issued the following statement in response to the announcement of Postmaster General Louis DeJoy’s ten-year plan for the Postal Service:

“Delivering for America means ensuring that the Postal Service continues to be accessible and affordable to all communities. However DeJoy’s plan moves us further away from this reality and lays the foundation for a longtime Republican goal: the dismantlement and privatization of our beloved postal service. I have grave concerns about this plan’s proposed prices increases, reductions in service hours, delivery delays, and its impacts on local post offices and processing centers like Cherrybell.

“The pandemic has demonstrated the critical role USPS plays in conducting business, communicating with loved ones, voting, and providing vital and reliable services to all zip codes in our country. We cannot tolerate a leader at USPS with open conflicts of interest like Trump-appointee DeJoy, and we must continue to hold him accountable for his deliberate sabotage of USPS. In order to invest in the U.S. Postal Service and postal employees, he must be removed and replaced with a leader who supports and believes in the postal service. I look forward to working with Democrats and President Biden on providing our postal service with the necessary resources and reforms we have proposed.”
