PHOENIX— Recently, the ACLU of Arizona sent a letter to the Superintendent of Yuma Union High School District after reports that San Luis High School’s current enrollment policy of requiring an Arizona-issued form of identification was inhibiting students of undocumented parents from enrolling. In response, Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva issued the following statement:
“It’s already settled law that immigrant children—no matter their status—have a right to education in the United States. This policy is illegal, unconstitutional, and an unnecessary scare tactic that targets already vulnerable immigrant communities. I am grateful to the ACLU for condemning this policy, and I urge this illegal practice to be immediately terminated and allow immigrant students to access the education that is rightfully theirs.”
