Rep. Grijalva Decries Trump Budget Cuts to Health: ?This Budget Belongs in the Trash’

WASHINGTON–This week President Trump released his budget. In response, Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva issued the following statement:

“Recently, Trump released a budget that cements his strong desire cut to Americans’ health care, making it clear he has no understanding of the needs of the typical American. The American people need affordable access to health care, plain and simple. They don’t want to haggle with medical bills and choose between putting food on the table or paying for life-saving prescriptions. Instead of putting forward a budget that meets these needs, he has once again unfairly targeted these programs in order to pay for his tax giveaways to the wealthy and giant corporations that exploded the deficit.

“I’m sure Trump and the buddies he’s enriching at the expense of U.S. taxpayers don’t have to worry about high health care costs–but my constituents do. Hundreds of billions of dollars in cuts to Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, the Children’s Health Insurance Program, and National Institute of Health, is a non-starter in the House of Representatives. I will do everything in my power to ensure this budget proposal ends up where it belongs–in the trash.”
