WASHINGTON – Today, in a 6-3 vote, the Supreme Court released its ruling on former President Trump’s claim he had presidential immunity from criminal prosecution from a federal grand jury indictment on four counts for conduct that occurred during his Presidency following the November 2020 election. The indictment alleged that after losing that election, Trump conspired to overturn it by spreading knowingly false claims of election fraud to obstruct the collecting, counting, and certifying of the election results.
“The Supreme Court of the United States failed to hold former President Trump accountable for the most treasonous act one can commit – seeking to undermine our Democracy by clinging to power,” said Rep. Grijalva. “Actively working to subvert the election and leading an attempted coup that stormed the U.S. Capitol cannot, under any circumstance, be considered an official presidential act. It is clear the SCOTUS is stacked to protect this con-man rather than our nation. I ask the District court to act urgently to protect our Democracy, where the SCOTUS has failed.”
