TUCSON– Congressman Grijalva made the following statement in response to Mrs. Gloria Arellano Montoya being denied humanitarian parole.
“Nine years ago, Mrs. Gloria Arellano Montoya was barred from entering the United States by the Department of Homeland Security. Mrs. Arellano Montoya’s infraction was overstaying her visa and, on advice of an attorney, she was attempting to rectify that issue when she was barred and separated from her four citizen children and husband. Yesterday, her son Bill petitioned for humanitarian relief so his mother could accompany her four children as they tend to her gravely ill husband. The Department of Homeland Security has denied that request” said Rep. Grijalva.
“In denying her the opportunity to be with her family during a sorrowful and trying time, DHS has demonstrated a mean-spirited and cruel attitude towards a real humanitarian request. Our government has reached a new level of total denial, devoid of compassion and understanding.
“I have sent a request to the Secretary of Homeland Security demanding an intervention and reconsideration of this case. Mrs. Gloria Arellano Montoya should be granted humanitarian parole so she can briefly reunite with her children and ailing husband. This is a basic extension of humanity and compassion to an exemplary family that desperately needs it.”

“Hace nueve años, el Departamento de Seguridad Nacional (DHS, por sus siglas en inglés) le prohibió ingreso a la señora Gloria Arrellano Montoya hacia los Estados Unidos. Tras obedecer la asesoría de un abogado, la infracción de la señora Arellano Montoya fue rebasar la estadía que le permitió su Visa de turista. Mientras estaba en el intento de rectificar su situación migratoria, la separaron de sus cuatro hijos, y esposo cuando fue expulsada del país. Ayer, su hijo Bill solicitó un auxilio humanitario para su madre, con la esperanza de unirse con su familia y cuidar de su esposo quien está seriamente grave. El departamento de Seguridad Nacional le negó la previa instancia.
“Tras la negación de permitirle la oportunidad de estar junto a su familia durante estos momentos tan afligidos, el DHS demuestra el comportamiento malintencionado y cruel hacia una solicitud realmente humanitaria. Nuestro gobierno ha llegado a un nivel increíble de rechazo, carente de empatía y comprensión.
“Hoy, envié una petición a la Secretaria Ejecutiva del Departamento de Seguridad Nacional exigiéndole su intervención y reconsideración de este caso. La señora Gloria Arellano Montoya debería de recibir el permiso humanitario para que, por un corto tiempo, se reúna con sus hijos y con su convalenciente marido. Permitirle esta oportunidad a una familia ejemplar, sería una muestra de humanidad y compasión a quienes realmente lo necesitan.”
