WASHINGTON – Today, Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva (AZ-03) released the following statement in support of the 22nd Street Revitalization and thanked Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg for visiting the City of Tucson:
“On behalf of the 3rd District of Arizona, we welcome Secretary Buttigieg to Tucson and are grateful to him and the Biden administration for funding the Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) grant for the 22nd Street Revitalization Project. The 22nd Street project addresses significant needs of the region by adding traffic capacity to reduce commute times, end lengthy detours, and provides an East-West connection between downtown Tucson and other under-invested areas of our community. This project will improve traffic conditions while providing freight rail access that is critical to the movement of goods across the nation. I’m proud to support this project that has been a priority for Tucson for years. I’ll continue to fight for infrastructure and funding to ensure Southern Arizona can flourish in a sustainable and equitable way.”

As noted by the Department of Transportation, this year’s allocations include more than $2.2 billion thanks to the President’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which provides an additional $7.5 billion over five years for the program to help meet the strong demand to help projects get moving across the country.
