Rep. Grijalva on House Appropriators Border Wall Funding: Yet Another Massive Waste of Money
WASHINGTON, D.C.— Yesterday, the FY2019 Homeland Security Appropriations Bill was released and included $5 billion for approximately 200 miles of border wall and fencing. In response, Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva issued the following statement:
“For a party that claims ‘fiscal responsibility’, Republicans seem hell-bent on putting Trump’s fiscal principles ahead of their own and wasting $5 billion on a divisive, unnecessary border wall. As our roads and bridges crumble, schools remain underfunded, and working families continue struggling to make ends meet, diverting resources towards a physical barrier on our southern border is simply foolish. If Trump and Republicans truly cared about making our borders safe or being good stewards of taxpayer dollars, they would invest that money in modernizing our ports of entry, which have longstanding infrastructure needs and merit significant investment.”
