WASHINGTON, DC— Today, a federal court ruled against a decision by the Trump Administration to include a citizenship question on the 2020 Census. In response, Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva issued the following statement:
“Once again the court stepped in to block a legally dubious and overtly discriminatory action by the Trump Administration. The Census is the most important tool our government possesses for accurately counting our population, and its results determine representation and the disbursement of critical federal funding that impacts the entire country. The reckless actions of the Trump Administration’s immigration hardliners would have suppressed participation, distorted results, and jeopardized funding and representation for millions. I’m pleased the court saw the Trump Administration’s actions for what they truly were: a brazen attempt to interject their anti-immigrant sentiment into the Census and undermine its integrity.”
